Administrative Leave

Definition:
An excused absence is an absence from duty authorized for administrative reasons without loss of pay and without charge to leave. The decision to grant an excused absence is a matter of supervisory discretion. Excused absence is commonly referred to as "administrative leave.

Common Uses (not all inclusive):

  • Blood donation
  • Occasional tardiness and brief absences
  • Taking examinations for an employee's present position
  • Voting and voter registration in limited circumstances
  • Veteran's participation in a military funeral
  • Attend meetings of professional organizations and other groups as long as it is determined that the Department or operating administration will benefit
  • Participation in DOT sponsored and administers physical fitness programs and visits to health units
  • Participation in volunteer activities sanctioned and sponsored by DOT
