Workforce Planning

The Department faces new challenges as never before due to persistent budget cuts and an aging workforce. Our recent strategic planning efforts make it clear that as we look towards the future, we are focused on a very different Department of Transportation (DOT). Many requirements must be satisfied if we are to survive in a fiercely competitive and dynamic environment.

A systematic approach to workforce planning can facilitate more efficient and accurate alignment of the workforce to meet its  organizational goals, commitments, and priorities.

Workforce planning is looking at what an organization needs to accomplish in a given period of time; what knowledge, skills, and  experience are required to get the job done; and how large and what type of workforce is required to provide that mix of skills, knowledge, and experience.
